The two teams will kick off the NFL preseason on August 9

The Super Bowl may have only been ten days ago, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start thinking about next year.

More from Minnesota Vikings

The NFL has announced today that the two participants in this year’s Hall of Fame Game will be the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Minnesota Vikings. The Hall of Fame Game accompanies the induction of the new Hall of Famers, and marks the beginning of the NFL preseason.

This year’s Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees are Jerome Bettis, Junior Seau, Will Shields, Charles Haley, Mick Tingelhoff, Bill Polian, and Ron Wolf.

Tingelhoff and Bettis are most closely associated with the Vikings and Steelers, respectively, so the choices for the game make sense in that regard.

The Hall of Fame game, a tradition since 1962, will take place on August 9 at Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, and will be broadcast on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

Pointless as the NFL preseason is, the Hall of Fame Game is probably the most interesting of the preseason games since it marks the return of football, and accompanies the Hall of Fame induction, which takes place the day before the game.

The announcement proves, yet again, that’s it’s never too early to start thinking about football, even while we’re so far away from next season that we’re practically still in this past season. Nevertheless, it’s time to star asking the questions: will Adrian Peterson be on the field with the Vikings for this game? Will Troy Polamalu still be a Steeler next year? Will the Steelers be good forever?
