The Denver Nuggets have reportedly talked with as many as five teams in regards to trading shooting guard Arron Afflalo

Just so we’re on the same page: the Nuggets traded Arron Afflalo to the Magic, then traded to get him back from the Magic, only to put him on the market again.

And that, folks, is the state of the Nuggets in a nutshell.

ESPN Los Angeles writer Ramona Shelburne has reported that Afflalo’s second stint in the Mile High City could be winding down soon, as the Nuggets have discussed a potential trade of the veteran shooting guard with the Bulls, Trail Blazers and Kings. Those three teams are a bit late to the Afflalo party, as the Clippers and Heat had opened discussions within the last week.

So, what would it cost for a player averaging 14.5 points per game, yet shooting just under 43 percent from the field?

Well, the Nuggets are asking for a first rounder, which they’d love to add as they (finally) begin to admit it’s time to stop fooling themselves and accept what most of the basketball world already knows: they’re a bad team in need of a massive overhaul. Denver is also peddling swingman Wilson Chandler, yet Afflalo has drawn the most attention.

With the NBA trade deadline eight days away, the Nuggets want to dial up discussions on both Afflalo and Chandler in hopes of netting enough picks to help retool a franchise that won 57 games as recently as the 2012-13 season.

Afflalo would be a good fit for a Bulls team that is now just a game ahead of the surging Cavaliers for the third spot in the Eastern Conference playoff chase. Chicago wants another reliable outside shooter to take pressure off All-Star Jimmy Butler and could also reduce the number of bricks coming off the hand of Derrick Rose. His fate could also be tied to the decision of free agent sniper Ray Allen, who is expected to announce which team he’ll play with as early as next week. The Bulls, Clippers and Heat are on Allen’s shortlist, so the losers would be more apt to listen to Denver’s demand.

Sometimes, a second chance just doesn’t work out, as Afflalo’s time with the Nuggets is about to attest. Still, he can take solace in knowing that he’ll be playing in meaningful games in May with his new team.
