Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw hit with weed citation
Colts running back Ahmad Bradshaw was recently arrested for marijuana possession.
The list of NFL players who’ve gotten into some kind of legal trouble since season’s end has added another name: Indianapolis Colts running back Ahmad Bradshaw was cited for marijuana possession.
According to the report, Bradshaw, last Thursday, was given two citations: one for the possession of marijuana and one for following another vehicle too close. The passenger in Bradshaw’s vehicle was arrested and charged with two counts of drug possession.
With marijuana growing in popularity around the nation in regards to its legality, how the NFL continues to punish those who find themselves in trouble with the law because of it will be interesting. If previous years have shown us anything, the NFL won’t be backing down on its policy anytime soon (unfortunately) which means trouble for Bradshaw.

The amount of marijuana found on Bradshaw will determine the penalty/suspension/fine received from the NFL, as well as whatever the Colts decide to do with the running back. No, Bradshaw won’t receive a Josh Gordon-like suspension where his entire season is in jeopardy — that’d take at least four infractions which is grounds for a 10-game suspension; anything after equates to an entire lost season.
Because the running back position is one quite easy to replace and has a short shelf life, this could be the last we see of Bradshaw as a Colt, even if the running back position is their weakest amongst skill positions. Last season, Bradshaw rushed for 425 yards and two TDs on 90 carries last season for Indianapolis. Because of a broken leg suffered against the New England Patriots earlier in the 2015 season, Bradshaw missed the majority of the season.
With the 29th overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Colts could find an immediate replacement for Bradshaw (and Trent Richardson who doesn’t look to be in the teams plans going forward). One name that comes to mind. University of Georgia running back Todd Gurley. Because Gurley suffered an ACL injury through his final college season, spending a first-round selection on the running back seems unlikely, but from a talent perspective, he’d be exactly what Indianapolis needs to improve a position that has lacked greatly since the arrival of Andrew Luck.
But that’s predicting the future. With a court date around the corner, we’ll know more about Bradshaw’s chances to remain in Indianapolis.
Bradshaw turns 29 in March.
