The driver of the No. 24 has taken the Daytona 500 pole in his final full season
Jeff Gordon announced last month that 2015 would be his last season as a full-time driver of the N0. 24 Chevrolet, and he also acknowledged this year’s “Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing,” the Daytona 500, will be the last of his career.

During the last qualifying of his career for the big race, Gordon captured the pole and will be leading all the cars to kick off racing season next Sunday.
Jeff Gordon will be joined up front by his teammate and two-time Daytona winner, Jimmie Johnson.
Gordon is no stranger to winning at Daytona, as he has won the Daytona 500 three times.
It was the first ever group-qualifying for the Daytona 500, and afterwards many drivers were upset with the new format for determining the order of where everyone lines up. The new format only determines the first two spots and the rest will be determined Thursday night during the Budweiser Duel qualifying races.

Jeff Gordon’s qualifying speed of 201.293 mph was the fastest in 28 years and the first over 200 mph since Bill Elliot’s record 210 mph.
It’s not surprising to see Gordon and Johnson at the top as they are two of the best in NASCAR and all weekend the Hendrick Motorsports racers had some of the fastest cars in practice.
Gordon considered was immensely happy with the pole.
“That feels good. It was awesome,” he said after winning the Daytona pole, via FOX Sports. “That was one of the most gratifying poles here at Daytona that I’ve ever had. Not just because it’s my final Daytona 500, but because you’ve got to try to plan it out and try to play that chess match and we played it very, very well.”
While this might be Gordon’s last full season and final Daytona, Jeff Gordon looks like he’s on a mission to capture one more championship.
