The Cleveland Browns have a need at the tight end position with Jordan Cameron leaving, and they could target Denver Broncos star Julius Thomas in free agency.
Julius Thomas is expected to hit the free agency market this coming offseason, and is going to be a very popular name on the open market. The Denver Broncos would prefer to keep him, but they simply won’t be able to afford him with a new deal being necessary for star wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.

That being said, there are going to be plenty of teams out there that will give Thomas the type of offer that he wants. One team to keep an eye on is the Cleveland Browns, according to a report from Cleveland.com.
Jordan Cameron is expected to leave the Browns in free agency himself this coming offseason, and that will create a need at the tight end position. Thomas would be a very pricey option, but he would be exactly what the Browns need to improve their passing game. Cleveland’s quarterback situation isn’t pretty, especially after the embarrassing rookie season that Johnny Manziel had.
Thomas ended up catching 43 passes for 489 yards and 12 touchdowns in 13 games during the 2014 season. At 6’5″ and 250 pounds, he is a nightmare matchup for any opposing defender. Cleveland hasn’t had a talent like him in quite some time, and he would be a big step in the right direction for the Browns.
At 26 years old, Thomas still has plenty of room to grow and plenty of good football left in him. The Browns would be very smart to offer him a lucrative deal.
It would be an idea fit for the Browns, and would help out whoever they end up starting at quarterback in 2015. There aren’t many talented tight ends with the athletic ability that Thomas possesses, and the Browns offense will need some major help with the quarterback issues and Josh Gordon suspension.
Expect to see the Browns be very active on the free agent market, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them make an aggressive push to sign Thomas.
All of that being said, whether or not Thomas will want to sign with the Browns is another question. They will have to figure out their quarterback questions before they get serious about bringing in star receivers. It would be smart to re-sign Brian Hoyer and hope that Manziel can turn things around.
No matter what ends up happening, Thomas would be a perfect free agency signing if the Browns can make it happen.
