Two Auburn football players stand accused of harassing a military veteran and her service dog, in what was described as a rather despicable scene. It’s not a shut and closed manner, as the two players in question merely stand accused of this heinous act, but sometimes that’s all it takes to ruin your public image.
The incident was posted on a Facebook page called Service Dog Memes and alleges that two football players harassed a disabled veteran who needs the use of a service dog to help her cope with PSTD and other ailments that have resulted from her time in active duty.
Here’s the post from the group who are passing around the incident — which is still nothing mroe than an allegation at this point.
The players in question here are defensive tackle Dontavious Russell and defensive lineman Andrew Williams, identified by their numbers in the post above.
No one is doubting that this is heinous, if true, but there is still some hope that it’s false. It’s hard to stomach this kind of disregard for respect of your fellow human, which is where the hope that his just a Facebook hoax — of which this has all the makings of. But it sounds too real and if it is, then there is going to be some serious fallout from this.
Lightly Buzzed reached out to Auburn University for comment and were told that the incident is being investigated.
It didn’t end there. The sister of the alleged victim took to Facebook to publicly shame the players in question for their treatment of her sister.
We all want to believe that this isn’t true, but that’s the humanity in us that is hoping people aren’t really capable of this level of knuckledragging. If this is indeed proven to have actually happened, then punishment in the form of a suspension is called for.
In addition to that, this can serve as a lesson of tolerance and that even though we live in an educated age, there are still those people who lack civility. This goes beyond the fact that the victim in question was a veteran or had PSTD. Bullying comes in all forms and happens to everyone, and it’s a display of knuckledragging at it’s best.
That’s a correctable problem, but this is a disgusting blow to the humanity in us all.
