Paltry production from their receiving corps last season has led the Minnesota Vikings to pursue other options, which may begin during the NFL Rookie Combine in Indianapolis.

While the Vikes will be looking at the crop of available wideouts for the April 30-May 2 draft, the team will start by talking with the agent of receiver Mike Williams while also discussing defensive back Captain Munnerlyn as well.

Williams, who will be an unrestricted free agent next month, spent the 2014 season with the Bills, playing in only nine games while catching just eight passes for 142 yards and a score. The former Syracuse standout spent the previous four years with the Buccaneers, who drafted him in the fourth round of the 2010 draft.

Williams started 47 of his first 48 games with the Bucs, catching 193 passes and 23 touchdowns during that span. Injuries held him to six games in 2013, resulting in his release following the season.

Minnesota held hopes that Cordarrelle Patterson would follow up his solid rookie season, yet only got just 33 catches for 384 yards and one touchdown in 2014. Patterson was benched in favor of free agent Charles Johnson near the end of the season, as Johnson caught 26 of his 31 receptions over the final seven games. Veteran Greg Jennings led the Vikes with 59 receptions, but will be 32 before next season.

According to ESPN.com Vikings reporter Ben Gosseling, the team, which picks 11th overall, are targeting three receivers in the Combine: Alabama’s Amari Cooper, DaVante Parker of Louisville and Kevin White of West Virginia. Cooper and Parker would have particular interest for Minnesota in that quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was a high school teammate of Cooper, while Parker was Bridgwater’s favorite target when the two paired up in college.

With Bridgewater entrenched as the team’s quarterback of the future, the Vikings are looking to add weapons to upgrade an offensive attack that finished 28th in passing yards per game. While Minnesota has a host of other needs to address — let alone resolving the Adrian Peterson situation — the team will have a hard time ignoring any of the three wideouts should they be available at pick 11.

While not as deep and talented as last year’s landmark class of wideouts, the Vikings can go into the second round and still have a host of quality candidates to consider drafting, including the likes of Ohio State’s Devin Smith, fast-rising Breshard Perriman of Central Florida and Dorial Green-Beckham, the former Missouri and Oklahoma wideout whose size and speed echos comparisons of former Vikings All-Pro Randy Moss.
