Gary Kubiak believes in the Peyton Manning way
Gary Kubiak, the new head coach of the Denver Broncos, expects Peyton Manning to thrive in his offense.
Gary Kubiak will have quite a challenge awaiting him heading into the 2015 NFL season. He is set to inherit a Denver Broncos team that has, in most people’s eyes, underachieved the past three seasons. Despite winning 38 regular season games during that stretch, the franchise has produced just three playoff victories, and in February of 2014, they were blown out 43-8 in the Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks. With a team as talented as Denver, and a GM with a pedigree such as John Elway’s, anything short of a Super Sunday victory seems like a failure of a season. Do not expect coach Kubiak to change too much though. He likes quarterback Peyton Manning, and the offensive tools he brings to the table.

While the window on the Broncos’ title hopes is obviously closing, Kubiak and company feel as though it is not too late to win under their star quarterback.
And although injuries appeared to rattle the soon to be 39-year-old quarterback during the final stretch last season, there is little reason to believe that a healthy Peyton is incapable of producing similar numbers to last year’s first 11 games.
As for Peyton’s mobility? Well, it is not great; and truth be told, it never really was. Kubiak is not worried though. Despite the notions that Manning is a bad fit for his system, the head coach remains persistent that next season will be a perfect match.
“Can he roll out? I think he can do anything he wants to do. You do what your players do best. I’ve been asked over the course of the last month, since I’ve been in Denver, about the bootleg. I had Joe [Flacco] in Baltimore last year and I think we booted maybe 25 times in the season. You do what your players do best,” coach Kubiak said. “We’re going to run the Denver Broncos Offense, and that’s a big challenge to me right now, meshing things together and getting ready to go do the things that Peyton does so well and has for many, many years.”
There are obviously going to be questions about the weapons he will have at his disposal as the team has to deal with the free agencies of several key players on offense, including tight end Julius Thomas, and wide receivers Demaryius Thomas and Wes Welker. In total, the team has 18 players who are currently eligible for the market.
However, as ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports, the Broncos, even with Manning under contract, have about $26 million in cap space. This would give the team a little bit of wiggle room to deal with retaining some of their most important pieces on both sides of the ball.
