Dale Earnhardt Jr. bought a ticket for the big jackpot and won some cash of his own

With last week’s Powerball exceeding $500 million, people all over the country were lining up to get a ticket and a chance to win the giant jackpot.

One person who took part in the drawing was Hendrick Motorsports driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.

The popular NASCAR driver, like many, couldn’t pass up the chance to buy a ticket and have a chance to win some cash off the track for once.

Earnhardt Jr. even won too.

However, he didn’t win the jackpot, he just had the correct Powerball number. He won a modest $12 of the $500 million plus that was up for grabs.

In fact, Earnhardt Jr. didn’t even know how to play the game according to a recent media tour he did in New York City.

"“Somebody was buying one when we walked by and I said, ‘Hell, I’m going to get one,’” he said.Earnhardt asked for a Quick Pick ticket (because “I don’t even know what I’m doing with it”) and excitedly shared his numbers in a group text with close friends who had been sharing theirs."

While Earnhardt Jr. had fun playing the Powerball, he had to deal with an angry girlfriend. His girlfriend wasn’t happy with him playing the lottery when he doesn’t need the money.

"“Amy (Reimann) got mad at me,” he said. “She’s like, ‘What the hell do you want a Powerball ticket for? You don’t need to be winning it.’ I promised right then I’d split half with charity. She made me feel pretty bad for actually buying it.“I don’t know, everybody else was buying them. I want to play!”"

So while Dale Earnhardt Jr. was getting ready for the Daytona 500 this Sunday, he was trying to win a 500 of his own…$500 million dollars.

He just fell about several hundred million dollars short.
