The Buffalo Bills are in transition as a franchise, but may look to the NFL Draft to find a replacement for C.J. Spiller.

With Rex Ryan officially on board as the new head coach of the team, the Buffalo Bills are going to be looking at ways to fix the franchise in the short term but also over the long term as well. That starts on offense, where the team was rather stagnant in 2014 and will need to make most of the changes.

Some may think that with Kyle Orton retiring and Rex Ryan wanting to start over, quarterback would be the most pressing need on offense. But E.J. Manuel seems as though he’s going to be given a fair shot which makes running back a priority for the Bills.

C.J. Spiller is a free agent this offseason and if he can’t be re-signed, then the Bills are going to need to find a long term replacement.

According to  Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News, the Bills are looking at running backs like Duke Johnson and Ameer Abdullah to replace C.J. Spiller if he is lost to free agency this offseason.

"“It’s deep. It’s one of those classes that we’re excited about,” Whaley said. “In the draft altogether, there’s some value in rounds 2 to 5 that you’re going to get some guys who will make an impact in this league.”"

There are other running backs in the draft like Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon but they’re not expected to last long. Buffalo has needs they can address before running back but they don’t have a first round pick with which to play with in 2015.

Sammy Watkins can be thanked for that, but adding another offensive weapon to the arsenal seems to be the right thing to do. Buffalo already has a top defense — and a top defensive coach — and all they need now is to find the right offensive pieces.
