Minnesota Timberwolves forward Shabazz Muhammad will undergo season-ending finger surgery.

2013 first-round draft pick Shabazz Muhammad will miss the rest of his season for the Minnesota Timberwolves, after his finger injury required surgery.

Shabazz Muhammed played one year at UCLA before declaring for the 2013 NBA Draft and he drafted 14th overall by the Utah Jazz before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for point guard Trey Burke.

Muhammed played 37 games with Minnesota his rookie season and 38 this year before requiring surgery. He’s also spent time with Minnesota’s Iowa Energy D-League affiliate.

He started 13 games for Minnesota this year and averaged 22 minutes a game where he scored 13.5 points and over four rebounds a game for the Wolves.

Minnesota sits at dead last in the Western Conference with a 12-42 record and doesn’t appear to be moving anywhere.

By losing Muhammad as a role player you can expect their season to continue to trend downward, and they’ll look to make a key addition in the NBA Draft depending on what pick they receive. Most likely they’ll look to fill a power forward, or a guard role that has been struggling all year with prospects like Jahlil Okafor, Emmanuel Muiday or D’Angelo Russell.
