Josh McCown will meet with the Cleveland Browns
By Ryan Ratty
The Cleveland Browns are in the market for a stopgap quarterback and Josh McCown fits the bill.
After filling in for Jay Cutler at the end of the 2013 season, Josh McCown turned a ton of heads and although he was aging and nearing the end of his career, NFL teams were interested in him to be a stopgap type of a quarterback. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the team that brought him in to be their starting quarterback. After winning the job over Mike Glennon, McCown showed that he is not capable of being a starting quarterback. Despite that, the Cleveland Browns, with Johnny Manziel in rehab and Brian Hoyer on the open market, are find themselves with a bad quarterback situation once again as they head into the 2015 season.
That being said, the Browns have done their due diligence so far this offseason and one quarterback they are interested in is in fact McCown. According to Bucs insider Jenna Laine, McCown is scheduled to meet with the Browns in the coming days.

When the 2015 season rolls around, McCown will be 36 years old and although he will likely not bring the Browns, if he signs with them, to the Super Bowl in 2016, the fact of the matter is that he is an intelligent quarterback and he would be just fine in Cleveland as a one- or two-year option. McCown isn’t special, but he’s been around this league for many years and he’s played in many offenses.
Looking at their roster, it doesn’t look like the Browns are competing for the division anytime soon. The quarterback position isn’t the only position that needs to be upgraded. McCown wouldn’t cost a lot of money and even if he doesn’t start, he would be a great backup as he is a guy who has made a living as a solid backup quarterback.
