Report: Oakland Raiders are going to make a big run at Randall Cobb

The Oakland Raiders are attempting to bring Derek Carr more weapons and their newest target is Randall Cobb. Could he end up playing for the Raiders?

It looks like their could be a reunion in Oakland, California.

Last year one of the biggest signings in free agency was the Oakland Raiders signing Green Bay Packers wide receiver, James Jones, to a three-year deal. This offseason the Raiders are back at it again and their target is another one of the Packers receiver, Randall Cobb.

According to Bill Williamson of ESPN.com, when March 10 rolls around the calendar, the Raiders are going to have their name in the mix to sign the speedster.

For the Raiders the move makes a ton of sense. Not only would Cobb be reunited with one of his former teammates in Jones, he’s also going to play in a system with the Raiders that is going to feature him as one of the focal points within the offense. If Cobb wanted to create a name for himself and further increase his statistics, then playing in Oakland might be the ideal place for him.

Furthermore, the Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie is one of the people who had a hand in drafting Cobb back in 2011 when he was the Green Bay Packers director of player personnel.

Don’t underestimate those deep connections because that’s something that could cause a tug at the heart-strings of Cobb.

For the Packers, they shouldn’t be too quick to let Cobb walk. Last season, and throughout his career playing for the Packers, Cobb has been one of the players who changes the game when he’s on the field.

Because of his versatility as a return man, wide receiver, and slot receiver, it’ll be hard for the Packers to replace him. In addition, Cobb has become one of Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, favorite targets. If Cobb were to leave the Packers will still have Rodgers but the offense won’t nearly look the same.

At the end of the day when Cobb goes on the open market it’s going to come down to a number of deciding factors including money, location, and growth. For Cobb we’ve seen him grow into one of the most dynamic receivers in the league, and if the Packers want to keep him then they should pony up and pay him more than what he’s worth.
