The Cleveland Browns reportedly might be interested in Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Mike Glennon.

The Cleveland Browns vowed to leave no stone unturned in their search for further quarterback competition to go with second-year QB Johnny Manziel and *maybe* pending free agent Brian Hoyer. They’ve even been tied to the trade market, where St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford is seeking another team to either trade for him or at least give him the leverage he needs to avoid a pay cut.

To that end, a new name has surfaced in the rumor mill that might make sense for Cleveland, especially because they’re rumored to be hotly interested in him. Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon is apparently turning some heads in Cleveland, per Jeremy Fowler at ESPN.

Fowler writes, “Two league sources are hearing the Browns have at least sniffed around on [Mike] Glennon’s potential availability. While I haven’t heard of any formal offers, Glennon should be a player to watch in the Browns’ Great QB race — if the Bucs are willing to part with him.”

If is the biggest part of that equation. The Buccaneers are widely expected to use their first overall selection in May’s NFL draft on a quarterback — likely Florida State QB Jameis Winston — which has put Glennon’s status in limbo in the public eye, despite head coach Lovie Smith’s assurances that Glennon is the team’s starter. After all, Smith isn’t the kind of guy to get ahead of himself and Glennon is the only NFL quarterback on his roster right now.

Fowler notes that Glennon “has thrown for 4,025 yards, 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 18 starts,” which makes for a decent season when you consider the team he’s played for the last two seasons. They aren’t top-tier numbers, but no one is saying Glennon is a top-tier option. That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be a good fit in Cleveland or elsewhere.

Still, a trade may be hasty for Tampa, who would surely like this to be the last year in which they select in the top five of the draft. Keeping Glennon would offer this team a cheap fill-in while a new rookie QB gets acclimated to the NFL. If Tampa trades Glennon, they’ll just have to turn around and find another quarterback elsewhere.

So if the Cleveland Browns want to add Glennon to their roster, they’ll need to make it worth the Bucs’ time. For the cost of even one draft pick, the Browns had better make sure such a payment is worth it.
