As the Major League Season begins, here are five storylines to keep an eye out for.
It’s really hard to believe that 2015 marks the 20th season in the history of Major League Soccer.
However, this year could possibly be the biggest year the league has seen since its debut in 1995 mainly due to the growth of the sport in the United States, starting with the 2014 World Cup run by the USMNT and the upcoming one by the USWNT this summer in Canada.

Back to the local game, when the 20th MLS season kicks off on Friday when the five-time defending MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy take on the Chicago Fire, it’ll begin a season with a lot of firsts.
It’ll mark the beginning of “Life after Landon” for the Galaxy, who play their first season without Landon Donovan since 2005. While it marks the first season without a huge star, it opens up the opportunities for new ones to shine in two new cities, New York City and Orlando as NYCFC and Orlando City begin their inaugural MLS seasons, fittingly, against each other in a triple-header to close out the first weekend of the season.
MLS also welcomes a new stadium and welcomes back a few American stars to the league.
