Alex Ovechkin goal celebration fail (GIF)

Washington Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin slipped and fell while celebrating an early goal.
Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin scored a goal last night. That much we’re pretty used to by now. What he did after isn’t so common for the first player to reach the 40 goal plateau in the NHL this season. At least he had a sense of humor about it.

Alex Ovechkin is the best pure scorer in the NHL. He shows unmatched raw power and speed with the way he scores goals like that one: a slap shot between the faceoff dots that looked like it went through the goaltender. Then he pulls off the arm pump he often does after scoring a goal, turns and oops.
The Washington Capitals don’t care if Ovechkin is standing, sliding, or walking on his hands after he scores, so long as he keeps scoring. Thanks to another virtuouso effort from Ovie this year, the Capitals are back in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race.
Between the rising play of Ovechkin and center Nicklas Backstrom and the steady goaltending of Braden Holtby, the Capitals are slowly forming as a team you don’t want to play right now. With more antics from their top players, look for Washington to be in the fight for the last spots in the playoff race right to the end of the season.
The Capitals currently own the #1 Wild Card seed, but sit just three points behind Pittsburgh for the final seed in the Metropolitan Division.
