The Miami Dolphins are one of the teams that is interested in bringing in free agent running back C.J. Spiller to their organization.

In 2006, the University of Miami never managed to get running back C.J. Spiller, but soon enough the 1,000 yard running back from Lake Butler, Florida might find himself back in Florida and this time playing in the Magic City.

One of the newest reports is that the Miami Dolphins franchise is very interested in bringing the speedster running back to tear up defenses as a member within their franchise.

According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, she reported that the Dolphins are one of several teams in the league including the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, and New York Jets that are interested in his services.

If the Dolphins managed to sign Spiller they would have one of, if not the best rushing attacks in the game of football. Last season Dolphins starting running back Lamar Miller had one of the most under-the-radar seasons as he put together a Pro Bowl caliber year rushing for 1,099 yards and eight touchdowns on only 216 carries. Those low amount of carries resulted in Miller averaging a fantastic 5.1 yards per carry.

Bringing in Spiller to the Dolphins who as a team averaged 117 yards per game, which was good enough for No. 12 in the NFL, would certainly help them. Spiller’s skill set as a football player is one of the most important reasons why his signing to the Dolphins could work. Spiller is a home run hitter, and with the quick paced offense of Dolphins offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, we could see another pair of 1,000 yard running backs like the Carolina Panthers did back in 2009 with DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart.

It may be a bit of wishful thinking since the NFL is now starting to become more and more of a passing league, but if the Dolphins can acquire Spiller for a reasonable price, it’s not too farfetched to think they wouldn’t use him in their offensive schemes after signing him.

Dolphins starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill has had his share of inconsistent play, but after turning the corner last season and having a breakout year, we noticed that he’s better when he has a solid running game behind him.

Additionally the move works since the Dolphins are most likely not going to re-sign running back Knowshown Moreno. After tearing his ACL, the Dolphins are looking to go their separate ways and find another complement to Miller.

After seeing LeSean McCoy get traded to their AFC East rival the Buffalo Bills, Spiller could be the power play the Dolphins need to finally win the AFC East.
