Jameis Winston, the projected number one overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, has suspended his Twitter account.

Maybe Jameis Winston is growing up after all. The 2013 Heisman Trophy Award recipient, 2014 National Championship winner, and projected number one overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft has officially suspended his Twitter account.

It is a move that could very well be an indication of maturation on Winston’s part. After several incidents haunted the talented quarterback throughout his time at Florida State, a positive public image is just what the award winning signal caller needs.

In 2013, he was accused of sexual assault by a fellow student. Charges against Winston would later be dismissed. The stigma, however, has remained in the fallout.

What did not help were 2014 incidents involving shoplifting from a Publix store, as well as a one game suspension for yelling an obscene phrase in the middle of the FSU student union.

His draft stock took another hit when his performance on the field last season was completely lackluster compared to his record setting 2013 campaign. However, a significant loss in talent on offense could be attributed to that.

The 2015 scouting combine was a turning point for Winston though. Aside from a somewhat disappointing 40 yard dash time, the Heisman winner impressed team officials with his performance both on and off the field.

Several scouts have likened his football IQ to Peyton Manning, with some even going as far to say that the two are comparable as far as prospects go. ESPN’s Todd McShay has even stated that Winston is second only to Andrew Luck in QB grading over the past ten years.

It is rare these days that we see highly touted athletes drop any forms of existing social media they might have already had. That is why Winston’s decision to get rid of his Twitter account prior to April’s draft is an excellent sign. It shows that his head is in the right place currently, solely on football.

Should Tampa Bay take the 6′ 4″ 230 specimen with the first overall selection, he will be flanked with talent immediately at the receiving core. The Bucs head into 2015 with an aerial arsenal that includes rookie standout Mike Evans and multiple time pro-bowler Vincent Jackson.

If the team can strengthen its offensive line, expect the passing game to be extremely potent next season.
