All good things must come to an end, and Reggie Wayne’s run in Indianapolis is finally over.

Reggie Wayne’s future has been in question ever since he tore his ACL midway through the 2013 season, and his NFL career has never had as big of a question mark as it does now.

Around this time yesterday, it was reported that the Indianapolis Colts would not bring back their 14-year veteran receiver.

Of course everyone wishes for a dream ending in Wayne’s situation, but the NFL is a business first – and it was his time to go. Wayne’s career in Indianapolis was about as good as it gets, and the entire city took a punch to the gut from the news.

From players, fans and everyone in between – it was hard news to swallow.

To show how great of a deal Wayne meant to the city of Indianapolis, here is a local business (Indianapolis Power and Light Company) paying a nice tribute to number 87.

In his 14 seasons with the Colts, Wayne has played the most games in franchise history (211) and has also won the most games in franchise history (143).

Wayne would have all the receiving records for the franchise had it not been for the Colts having one of the other greatest receivers of all-time in Marvin Harrison. Wayne’s career in Indianapolis finishes with 1,070 catches for 14,345 yards and 82 touchdowns.

Wayne’s receptions and yards are good for 7th and 8th all-time, respectively.

No news from Wayne has come since the news, and his future is currently unknown.

There were times when he was still a productive player last season, but for the most part he looked like a 36-year-old that had 14 long seasons under his belt.

It would be nice if Wayne was content with this ending and could call it a career, because it wouldn’t be right seeing him in any other uniform.
