Indianapolis Colts interested in signing Brian Orakpo
By Evan Massey
The Indianapolis Colts are looking to improve their pass rush, and are interested in signing Washington Redskins impending free agent Brian Orakpo.
There are quite a few teams looking to take the next step this offseason in free agency, and the Indianapolis Colts are one of those teams. One of the biggest needs that they have heading into free agency is improving their pass rush, and they are reportedly interested in signing Washington Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo.
It would be a very nice pickup for the Colts, although Orakpo has had some health issues and missed a good chunk of last season. He was able to play in seven games and record 24 tackles and 0.5 sacks. Needless to say, the 2014 season was a major disappointment for Orakpo and it lost him a good chunk of money.

That being said, he still has the potential to be one of the league’s premier pass rushers as he was back in the 2013 season.
Orakpo racked up 60 tackles, 10.0 sacks, and an interception during 2013, and was without question one of the top pass rushers in the league. Bringing him on board at that production would be an absolutely huge move for the Colts. He would pair nicely with Robert Mathis if they are both health, and would make the Colts’ defense much more dangerous.
At 28 years old, there is still plenty of football left for Orakpo to play at a high level. The Colts have a good amount of cap space available to spend this offseason, and spending some of it on a player with Orakpo’s skill-set wouldn’t be a bad idea at all.
There are plenty of teams that would like to sign a player with the skill that Orakpo possesses. He will be commanding a decently high price contract, but it isn’t going to break the bank. It will be interesting to see how much he actually ends up getting on the open market.
Free agency officially opens up on Tuesday, and there will be plenty of rumors flying around before then. Orakpo has already seen his name attached to quite a few different teams in rumors, but the Colts are a very intriguing option for him. He would be given a huge role on a Super Bowl contender.
When everything is said and done, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Orakpo end up signing with the Colts. They have the money and the need, and Orakpo would likely love to play for a contender after quite a few rough seasons in Washington.
