The Indianapolis Colts have re-signed Darius Butler.

It’s no secret that the Indianapolis Colts are going to be one of the better teams in the NFL over the next few years. With Andrew Luck calling the shots, the Colts are going to be destined for success for along time. Luck is one of the better quarterbacks in the league and he is only 25 years old. That being said, Luck is still extremely young and he still has around 13 more years left in this league if he stays healthy. However, the main problem with the Colts is their defense.

Earlier tonight, the Colts brought back one of their unrestricted free agents in Darius Butler.

Although he isn’t a top-tier cornerback, Butler is a guy that has played the best football of his career in Indianapolis and he knows this defense. After two seasons at the start of his career with the New England Patriots, a short one-year stint with the Carolina Panthers, Butler has spent the past three seasons of his career with the Colts. In 2012 and 2013, Butler had four interceptions in each season, three of those eight were brought back for touchdowns.

Albert Breer of NFL Network recorded the details of his contract.

To pair with one of the best cornerbacks in the league in Vontae Davis, the Colts now have a productive cornerback returning and, as Colts beat writer Mike Chappell reported, Butler will return to be the nickel cornerback.

Regardless, the Colts are getting a player who has produced for them over the past three seasons. Also, Butler will not cost that much money. If he fails to produce in 2015, the dead money wouldn’t be that bad if the Colts were to cut him at the end of the 2015 season.
