First, the New Orleans Saints agreed to trade star tight end Jimmy Graham to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for Max Unger and a first-round pick. Then another big name went on the move when the Baltimore Ravens shipped Haloti Ngata to the Detroit Lions.
With Ndamukong Suh leaving the Lions in free agency and Nick Fairley likely leaving, the Lions needed to find a way to add another big body to their interior defensive line.
They were able to do just that by acquiring Ngata.
News of the trade was first reported by Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.
The report came minutes after Wilson said the Ravens would explore all options with Haloti Ngata, including a potential trade. Just a few minutes later, the Baltimore Ravens made the deal official.
In order to swing a deal for Ngata, the Lions gave up a fourth- and fifth-round draft pick.
After the Ravens and Ngata failed to come up with an agreement on a restructured deal — Ngata is due $8.5 million in 2015 carries a $16 million salary-cap figure — the team decided to part ways.
