A four year veteran out of UC Berkley, Vereen won Super Bowl 49 with the New England Patriots back on February 1st. In 2014, he registered 391 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground while only starting 6 games.
He will join a group of Giants running backs that already includes Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams, who both combined to go for 1,360 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. Vereen, however, provides an additional pass catching threat to quarterback Eli Manning’s arsenal.
In 2014, Vereen caught 52 passes for 447 yards and three scores. New York’s receiving core already includes reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randall, both of which combined for 2,243 yards through the air, and 15 touchdowns.
Victor Cruz, a pro bowl selection in 2012, and the team’s single season receiving yards record holder, is also expected to return to the fray in 2015.
The team’s big questions marks lie primarily with their defense. For the 2014 season, the Giants ranked 22nd in points (25.0), 29th in total yards (375.8), and 30th in rushing (135.1) allowed per game.
The Giants need to hope they can retain defensive end Jason Pierre Paul, who was one of the team’s few bright spots on that side of the ball last season. He recorded 12.5 sacks in 2014, and was a major reason why the franchise’s pass defense ranked even as high as 18th (240.6 yards per game), along with linebacker Jameel McLain and strong safety Antrel Rolle.
