Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brook announced Wednesday that 2014 MVP Kevin Durant will return in 1-2 weeks from his foot injury.

The Oklahoma City Thunder will be without the 2014 NBA MVP just a little bit longer.

More from Kevin Durant

Thunder coach Scott Brook announced Wednesday that Durant will continue to be out with a foot injury for the next 1-2 weeks, according to the Oklahoman’s Darnell Mayberry.

It’s certainly a tough break for the Thunder, who could really use Durant’s services immediately. Oklahoma City is currently in the midst of a close race for the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference and while the Thunder have been able to stay afloat since Durant first went out with the injury (Feb 19), they obviously would benefit greatly from KD’s presence.

The Thunder are certainly going to need Russell Westbrook to continue playing at an MVP-level as Durant continues to sit if they want to remain in a good position to make the postseason. The Thunder and currently tied with the New Orleans Pelicans for the No. 8 seed.

There was some hope that Durant would be returning sooner than this newest timetable suggests after the Thunder superstar looked good in a workout Tuesday.

It’s hard to fault the Thunder for playing it safe with Durant, given what this franchise has dealt with in terms of serious injuries in recent years and how important KD is to them making a deep playoff run.

Durant is averaging 25.4 points (51.0 percent shooting from the field, 40.3 percent shooting from three), 6.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game this season.
