According to Panama City (Fla.) deputy chief of police, Chad Lindsey and confirmed to the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, the All-SEC quarterback and eighth place finisher in the Heisman voting has declined to pursue charges against his assailants.
Prescott and teammates Damian Williams and Torrey Dale were jumped at a Waka Flocka concert earlier this week while on spring break. The assault left Prescott’s face bloodied, but none involved suffered serious injuries.
Lindsey told the Clarion-Ledger that Prescott declined medical treatment and didn’t want any negative attention because he’s a football player.
When asked if he wanted to press charges Prescott told the responding officer in a police report, “No, I just want to leave, I need to leave, can you take me to my room? I don’t need this publicity. I’m a football player.”
Prescott also told the officer what started the altercation and said, “A bunch of dudes were hating on me.”
Lindsey said they are more than willing to hear Prescott’s side of the story and don’t want to press charges solely on what they saw in the photos and videos that circulated through social media on Monday night.
Prescott did offer a tweet on Monday night saying he’s okay and can’t wait to get back to Starkville. Mississippi State begins spring practice next week.
