The Indianapolis Colts propose a hilarious new NFL rule that could have equally funny new rules across all the sports.

Do the Colts have some super cool kicker they’re waiting to unleash next year or something? According to Mark Maske, the Colts want a new rule that allows teams to go for a midfield field goal that would give them a 9th point, after a successful two point conversion. Uh, what?

Inquiring minds want to know, however. What are the conditions of this kick? Is it an uncontested kick? Is it literally a 67 yard field goal, snapped from midfield? Or is the ball placed at midfield for a 60 yard kick? What happens if it’s short? Can the other team return it? After all, there should be a penalty for thinking your kicker is that great and greedily going for nine points. If you miss, the other team should get the opportunity to run it back.

Football suddenly sounds a lot more chaotic.

What about applying this interesting idea to other sports? SBN decided to do just that. For example, in the NBA, making two free throws gives you the opportunity to take a shot from halfcourt for three more points. In the MLB, if a team hits three homers in one inning, the other team gets to replace its human pitcher with an automatic one. They get wilder with soccer PK shootouts are replaced by free kick battles after 5 rounds and in hockey, if a goalie saves three consecutive shots in a shootout he has to wear an inflatable sumo suit for the next skater.

If you think hard enough, there’s plenty of other bonus points opportunities for all sports. You just have to have some imagination. There could even be rules where teams lose points or gain mushroom suits or…wait.
