Steve Spurrier never missed an opportunity to take a shot at Tennessee and the Head Ball Coach did another masterful troll job at the expense of the Vols.

Whether it was during his time as the head coach at Florida or at South Carolina, Steve Spurrier has never passed on taking a shot at the Tennessee Volunteers.

The Head Ball Coach once famously said you can’t spell the Citrus Bowl with out “UT” and the Gamecocks head coach was at it again this week when describing the 2014 season for South Carolina and managing expectations.

South Carolina had a disappointing year in 2014 when they failed to win double-digit games for the first time in four years when they went 7-6. Spurrier put a spin on the record as only he could when he compared their “decent year” to Tennessee who had the same record and they celebrated like they won the national title.

He’s not wrong. But he’s poking the bear considering Tennessee beat Spurrier’s team the last two years, and they did so in thrilling fashion. Vols head coach Butch Jones is 2-0 against South Carolina in his tenure on Rocky Top and has the team trending up as they look to compete for the SEC East title this year.

Can Spurrier say the same about his team?

Tennessee is “still doing cartwheels” because they went through a really dark period with Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley doing their best to sabotage the program so with Jones bringing a renewed sense of optimism and hope, you can understand why Vol Nation is as excited about their fate this upcoming season.

Things should be interesting when Tennessee and South Carolina meet in 2015 and I wouldn’t expect Spurrier to keep his opinions to himself anytime soon either.
