9. Cam Newton

When Cam Newton got drafted in 2011, Panthers fans rejoiced as the Heisman winner from Auburn looked like the next big thing in the NFL. In his rookie season, he lived up to those expectations by throwing for over 4,000 yards and rushing for 706 more. This dynamic player showed the NFL that he had quite the promising future reminiscent of a Michael Vick in his prime but with the body type of Calvin Johnson.

Unfortunately, since then Cam hasn’t really lived up to the hype. His biggest problem probably comes in the turnover category. He has thrown 54 interceptions and fumbled the ball 30 times in his career. Hardly the attractive statistic.

But this guy definitely has the potential to lead the Panthers to a Super Bowl. Of course Carolina’s GM, Dave Gettlemen, will have to build around his young quarterback and put the pieces in the right places. But since landing Newton in 2011, the Panthers have been to the playoffs twice, losing both times in the divisional round.

Moving forward, the Panthers have plenty to be excited about with their team. Building around Cam Newton is a great organizational move, as the 25 year old has plenty of football left in his tank. If the Panthers can get the right pieces together at the right time, there is no doubt that Cam could lead them past that pesky divisional round and on to a Super Bowl.
