Is newly signed veteran running back Frank Gore the missing piece that the Indianapolis Colts have been searching for?
Frank Gore has been one of the best and most consistent running backs in the NFL throughout his career, and he is getting ready for his first team switch in 2015. The San Francisco 49ers chose not to bring him back, and he ended up signing with the Indianapolis Colts after some drama with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Indianapolis had the best passing offense in the NFL last season with Andrew Luck leading the way, but they had no ground game. That has been a big weakness that has been causing the Colts’ some problems against certain teams. Adding Gore is going to help that weakness become a strong, and there is a lot of excitement surrounding him.
That being said, is Gore the missing piece that the Colts have been searching for over the past couple seasons?
While the majority of Colts’ fans are excited about Gore, some don’t think he will have success. The Colts don’t have a great offensive line, and Gore doesn’t have the quickness that some think is necessary in order to be effective in Pep Hamilton’s offense.
When you dig deep into the issue though, you’ll find that Gore is a perfect fit for the Colts. He may not have blazing speed, but he is a very smart running back and knows how to hit the gaps when they open up.
One of Trent Richardson’s biggest issues was his lack of field vision and he missed out on quite a few big runs because of it. That isn’t going to be one of Gore’s issues. Another big upgrade that the Colts made was Gore’s ability to run with power on each and every play rather than trying to bounce around and shying away from the contact that Richardson did.
At 31 years old, Gore is going to bring great veteran leadership to the table as well. Indianapolis is a very young football team with a ton of talent, and leadership is very important for that type of team. Gore is going to make the Colts’ offense complete for the first time since Edgerrin James left town, and fans should be very excited to see what he brings to the field.
So while concern for Colts fans is understandable, they need to begin getting excited about the move. Gore is the type of running back that will help take the Colts’ offense to the next level. He is still a very legitimate 1,000-yard rushing threat each and every season, and still has a few good seasons left in his career.
