The Dutch international suffered torn stomach muscles in the first half of Bayern Munich’s 2-0 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday and reports say he’ll be missing six to eight weeks.

The defeat was Bayern’s first home loss of the season and just their third defeat in all competitions, with Manchester City and Wolfsburg being the other teams to defeat the Bavarians.

While it won’t affect Pep Guardiola’s side’s chances of retaining another Bundesliga title, Robben’s injury is certainly a blow when it comes to their Champions League and German Cup aspirations.

The 31-year-old will definitely miss Bayern’s German Cup quarterfinal encounter at Bayer Leverkusen while it doesn’t look likely that he’ll be playing against FC Porto in the Champions League quarterfinals.

Robben has arguably been Bayern’s best player this season and seems to be getting better with age, having scored 17 goals in 21 league games so far. He has also scored twice in the Champions League this campaign.

“World-class is hard to replace. You have to deal with setbacks. That is the feature of a winner and we want to be winners,” Bayern’s director of sport Matthias Sammer said.
