Jadeveon Clowney, after undergoing knee surgery that ended his rookie season last year, may return to the Houston Texans by training camp.

The hype surrounding the no. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL draft was put on hold after a season-ending knee surgery made Jadeveon Clowney ride the bench. But Texan’s head coach, Bill O’Brien said that Clowney could be back soon. Even as soon as training camp.

There have been high hopes surrounding Clowney ever since he entered the NFL. Texan fans were robbed of the Jadeveon Clowney experience last year, but things are looking up for 2015.

Clowney would be joining a Texan’s defense that saw J.J. Watt and Brian Cushing dominate last year. The outside linebackers return could could really put them over the edge defensively. The Texans barely missed the playoffs last year going just 9-7. Houston was 16th in the NFL in total yards per game with 348.2, a number that needs to improve if the Texans plan on making the playoffs this year.

To help with this playoff push, Houston made some major off season deals sending tremors around the league. First, they released star wide receiver Andre Johnson, a shocking move. Then to replace Johnson they signed former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver, Cecil Shorts III to help on the offensive end. Perhaps their biggest acquisition was the signing of defensive tackle, Vince Wilfork. The former Patriot and two-time Super Bowl champion was one of the biggest prizes to be won in free agency this off-season and the Texans came out on top.

Placing Wilfork next to Watt on the defensive line and returning Clowney at outside linebacker could mean scary things this year for the Texans defense. It will be near impossible to run the football against the strong interior linemen that the Texan’s possess. But the time table for Clowney’s return is still unclear, even if his coach is being optimistic. Nonetheless, exciting things are happening out in Houston. And if the other teams in the AFC South plan on keeping up, they better start making moves and doing so quickly.
