NFL Rumors: Cleveland Browns to target Marcus Mariota or Sam Bradford?
By Ryan Ratty
With their problems at the quarterback position, the Cleveland Browns are a team that could look into multiple possibilities as the 2015 season nears.
With Brian Hoyer signing with the Houston Texans and Johnny Manziel, even though he’s slated to return before training camp, in rehab, the Cleveland Browns sure have their hands full at the quarterback position. Josh McCown was recently signed by the Browns, but after seeing his season last year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and how it panned out, it should be said that the Browns cannot be comfortable with a guy like McCown as the starter. With the draft approaching, the Browns could very well move up to select one of the top two quarterbacks in Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota. After all, they do have two first-round picks.

The fact of the matter is that the Browns finished 7-9 last season and that was with bad quarterback play. If the Browns want to compete for the AFC North title in 2015, an upgrade at the quarterback position needs to be made and it has been reported that two quarterbacks are intriguing options.
According to Cleveland.com, the Browns could make a run at another new quarterback. Reportedly, Oregon’s Marcus Mariota and the Philadelphia Eagles‘ Sam Bradford are on their radar. In a weekly mailbag, Mary Kay Cabot was asked about the quarterback position and if the Browns will look into addressing it even further.
"I think the Browns are fully prepared to start McCown this year, but they will continue to look for chances to upgrade the position. I think they’ll try to trade up to draft Marcus Mariota, and I also think they could make another run at Sam Bradford on draft day. If they don’t land one of those two, I do think McCown will be their man in 2015."
Despite Cabot’s comments, she also said that the Browns are big on third-string quarterback Connor Shaw, even though his one start in 2014 was subpar to say the least.
"They are also big on Connor Shaw, who could start games for them this season if necessary. As for Manziel, they’ll see what happens when he gets out of rehab soon. At this point, I don’t think they can get much in a trade. Maybe Jerry Jones is still interested."
Going into the season, the Browns seem to be comfortable with McCown, but the fact remains that bringing in Mariota or Bradford would make this fan base ecstatic. It should also be said that the Browns were interested in trading for Bradford when he was with the St. Louis Rams. Given their interest, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the Browns were to actually bring in another quarterback.
