The 2014 American League champion Kansas City Royals raised their AL pennant on Monday afternoon at their home opener.

It was 29 years between playoff appearances for the Kansas City Royals franchise. Those years were rough for the Kansas City baseball fans. But they were rewarded in 2014 with a magical run in the playoffs, culminating with another World Series appearance and ending one run shy of a world championship.

Though they did not reach their ultimate goal, they notched the American League championship, giving the franchise the opportunity to celebrate its first pennant since 1985. They did so on Monday in their home opener against the division rival Chicago White Sox.

And it was rather epic.

Not only did the Royals raise their first banner in almost 30 years, they also handed out AL Championship rings to all members of the 2014 team who were present at the ballpark on Monday.

The question is, of course, “What do the Royals do in 2015 for an encore?”

On Monday, the Royals got off to a 2-0 start against their division rivals through two innings played.
