Mike Moustakas had an interesting 2014 season. Midway through the year he was demoted to Triple-A, and by October, he was one of the stars of the Kansas City Royals‘ magical playoff run.
Moustakas hit the Royals’ game-winning home run in the 11th inning of Game One of the ALCS against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and drilled five home runs total in the 2014 playoffs. Monday, in the season’s opener against the Chicago White Sox, he just kept up what he did last October, going opposite field for an impressive homer.
Moustakas opened the season in the 2-hole for the Royals, in a move manager Ned Yost hoped would keep his young third baseman’s confidence high after his magical postseason run.
For at least one day, the moves looks brilliant. In addition to his recorded 392-foot opposite field blast, “Moose” also worked a walk to help the Royals jump out to a 4-0 lead against White Sox starter Jeff Samardzija, who was making his debut for the White Sox.
Actually, earlier in the game, Moustakas got into a fight from the dugout with the White Sox new ace.
