The Army Black Knights in collaboration on an 18-month project with Nike, have unveiled new uniforms that strengthen the relationship of Army and West Point, which no longer are separate entities.
The uniforms feature a black, white and gray uniform. They can also be mixed and matched with black, gold and white helmets to go with gold, white, gray and black pants.
Army had four players model the uniforms at the event.
Incorporating gray into uniforms has become a popular trend as of late. In college football, jersey trends catch on like wildfire.
Last week TCU unveiled new uniforms, which feature an all gray jersey.
The most important part of the new Army jerseys, is to celebrate their Military Academy at West Point.
USMA superintendent, Lt. Gen. Robert Calsen Jr., talked about how separating the two takes away from the purpose of the military.
"“To separate the Army from West Point is to take away the purpose of the United States Military Academy,” Lt. Gen. Robert Calsen Jr., USMA superintendent, said in a statement. “Since its founding in 1802, West Point has produced solider scholars and leaders of character for America. This innovative new branding respects and elevates the Academy’s history and heritage and reflects the unique qualities of Army West Point Athletics, while tying the service to the Academy.”"
The Army and West Point have long stood as one of the most sacred facets of American Military history. Now, Army has new uniforms to pay tribute and respect the Academy that has produced some of the finest minds and servicemen to ever put on a uniform.
