One week of the 2015 season is in the books. It’s hard to judge how the rest of the season will play out after only one week, but a lot of teams had a strong first week. The defending AL Champ Royals sit at 6-0 along with the Tigers, Alex Rodriguez is being well received (for now), and Clayton Kershaw proved he is indeed human.
Our league at Fantasy Baseball Crackerjacks has 21 weeks to go. Here is a recap of the week and breakdown of each match-up this week. Just as a refresher, the 10 categories are R, HR, RBI, SB and OPS for the hitters and QS, ERA, WHIP, SV and K/9 for the pitchers.
When writing about a non-writer owner, I’ll refer to their team name.
Led by Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt, Craig Melissas bested fellow editor Bill Pivetz 6-4-0. Craig led in every offensive category plus K/9. Bill’s pitching was stellar but lack of power and run support ultimately led him to a losing record.
In the match-up between Brad Kelly and myself, Brad came out on top 7-2-1. Justin Upton and Todd Frazier helped Brad get the win, who beat me in every offensive category. I had decent pitching, but my pitchers allowed too many runs in the end. We tied in quality starts.

In the match-up of writer Billy Moy and dh6040 dh6040, they ended up 5-5-0. Billy’s pitching dominated and dh6040 dh6040 hitting led him to the split. Ian Kinsler and Johnny Cueto led Billy’s team, where Edwin Encarnacion and Clay Buchholz helped dh6040 dh6040, sitting Buchholz for Sunday’s meltdown.
The South Park Cows defeated Venezuelan GOCHOS 9-1-0. GOCHOS won in stolen bases. J.D. Martinez, Xander Bogaerts, and the returning Matt Harvey led South Park Cows to first place.
The Rook defeated Papelbottom Jeans 7-3-0. Papelbottom Jeans had a lot of power with Buster Posey and Miguel Cabrera both hitting two home runs in the week, but came up just shy in RBI and runs. The Rook had a revitalized Joey Votto and a dominant Scott Kazmir to thank for the win.
Joe Greever lost to writer Elie Waitzer’s The Johnny Macs 8-2-0. Elie’s team had the record-setting performance from Adrian Gonzalez who had five home runs in the first three games. He led in everything but OPS and K/9.
