Milwaukee Brewers’ second baseman Scooter Gennett will now be added to the list of weird self-induced injuries as he cut his hand in the shower and has been placed on the DL.

More from Milwaukee Brewers

The list of weird sports injuries in the sport of baseball keeps on growing as Milwaukee Brewers‘ second baseman Scooter Gennett is the latest to join it. While his injury isn’t the worst out there, it’s pretty embarrassing because it happened while he was doing something so routine, many people wake up in the morning and can do with their eyes closes.

Apparently Gennett was showering yesterday when he reached for a shampoo bottle, cut his finger on the metal basket that held it and had to go to the hospital to get a few stitches.

The fact that this type of injury, that sounds so harmless, needed stitches, just goes to show how normal, everyday activities can be pretty dangerous.

OK, I may be exaggerating, but just take a look at the picture Gennett posted to his Instagram after the stitches were put in.

At least he’s man enough to admit that he did something so ridiculous to be placed on the disabled list for a couple weeks.

He’s not the first weird baseball injury in history, however. It seems to be a growing theme with these athletes on the diamond to get injured in the oddest ways possible.

Let’s take a look at three other odd afflictions from MLB players in the past.

1. Joel Zumaya, P, Guitar Hero injury

Not many of you may remember Joel Zumaya, but the Detroit Tigers‘ bullpen weapon was one to watch at all times. He quickly became a fan favorite in Detroit, but his injury-ridden career left the fireballer out of Tigers’ history.

Zumaya could routinely throw over 100 mph on the radar and sometimes reached up to 103 mph, but his arm became very delicate over time.

So much so, in fact, that he injured himself playing Guitar Hero — one of many injuries that ended his career.

2. Adam Eaton, P, stabbed himself trying to open DVD

Adam Eaton is another guy who inflicted the pain on himself, but this injury, in my opinion, is much worse than Gennett’s.

In 2001, upon buying himself a new DVD to add to his collection, Eaton thought that using a paring knife to open the package would be a good idea. Boy, was he ever wrong. The knife ended up slipping and stabbing the then-young pitcher in the stomach.

His luck was even worse shortly after as he was diagnosed with arm problems and had to undergo Tommy John surgery.

3. Steve Sparks, P, dislocated shoulder trying to tear phone book

Yes, you read that correctly. Steve Sparks was a pitcher in the late-90s and early-2000s who was known for his knuckleball, as well as dislocating his shoulder more than some people change their clothes.

During his career, Sparks dislocated his shoulder 15 times, but none was more embarrassing than the time he tried to show his toughness, attempting to rip a telephone book in half.

He will never live that one down.
