How bad will it get for the Brewers this year?

Through 19 games, Milwaukee is already a dismal 5-14, but just how bad will it get for the Brewers and their fans this season?

Here’s the mantra that the Milwaukee Brewers need to keep repeating to themselves: “It’s only April, it’s only April, it’s only April.”

More from Milwaukee Brewers

Because really, the fact that it’s only April is the only thing the Brewers have going for them. The team has gotten off to a horrendous start, 5-14 through 19 games (the worst in team history). Their two best players are hurt, their run differential of -47 is by far the worst in MLB, and pretty much no one on the team is hitting or pitching well. It’s safe to say that this is not what the Brewers had in mind for their season.

Of course, there’s a whole long season ahead of us; plenty of time for Milwaukee to turn things around. Remember that last year’s Brewers were MLB’s best in April, before crashing back to earth for the remainder of the season. It works the other way too.

Of course, “it’s only April” is more comforting to teams who have gotten off to a somewhat slow start, like the 7-11 Mariners, than teams that have become the worst in MLB. Is it already too late for the Brewers to turn things around? Let’s play glass half full/glass half empty.
