Here’s every pick the Browns have in this year’s draft, and what positions they need to target with those picks

The NFL draft is almost upon us. Months of speculation can finally come to an end as the big day arrives. It’s a big day for every team, but for the Cleveland Browns, who increasingly seem like the NFL’s most hopeless team, it’s more important than it is for most. The Browns need this.

Not only do the Browns have two first round picks (for the third time in four years, crazily enough), there’s a particular pressure on them to get them right this year. These are the players the Browns have chosen in the first-round in the past three years:

2012:
Trent Richardson (third overall)
Brandon Weeden (22nd overall)

2013:
Barkevious Mingo (6th overall)

2014:
Justin Gilbert (eighth overall)
Johnny Manziel (22th overall)

Richardson and Weeden were colossal busts. Mingo is a nice player with an incredible name, but hasn’t exactly played like a top six pick. The jury’s still out on Gilbert and Manziel, but they had even worse rookie seasons than Weeden and Richardson, and it doesn’t look good for the future of either player.

So in five first-round picks, the Browns drafted a running back in the top three (and one who was so bad he’s already on his third team), a 29-year-old quarterback, and the now infamous Johnny Football. So yeah, the Browns need this one to go well.

Here are their draft choices:

1st Round Pick (#12 Overall)

1st Round Pick (#19 Overall from BUF)

2nd Round Pick (#43 Overall)

3rd Round Pick (#77 Overall)

4th Round Pick (#108 Overall)

4th Round Pick (#112 Overall, via Buffalo):

5th Round Pick (#139 Overall)

6th Round Pick (#173 Overall)

7th Round Pick ( #204 Overall)

This gives the Browns nine choices overall, including two first rounders and six picks in the top 100. They have a real opportunity to improve last year’s 7-9 club, but this time, they need to do it right.

Positions of need for the team include wide receiver, defensive tackle, cornerback, and (once again, for emphasis) wide receiver. Potential first round targets could include Washington defensive tackle Danny Shelton, Central Florida wide receiver Breshad Perriman, or Washington linebacker Shaq Thompson. There have been reports that the team could use their two first rounders to trade up, possibly to grab Oregon QB Marcus Mariota, so Browns fans should be in for an interesting draft no matter what happens.
