The Detroit Lions have added a rock solid offensive lineman and a very bright young man in Laken Tomlinson to help protect Mathew Stafford.

After losing Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley this offseason, the Detroit Lions have to improve their interior defensive line. The team brought in Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, but considering that Ngata is already 31 years old and exiting his prime, the Lions still need another anchor at defensive tackle.

They could also use a little help at wide receiver, but with Central Florida’s Breshad Perriman coming off the board two selections earlier to the Baltimore Ravens, the team found themselves in a bind.

Should they bolster their defensive line, or add a potentially dominant offensive lineman to bookend the line and protect Mathew Stafford in the pocket?

It appears that the Lions found the later as the most worthy option at the moment, and I cannot argue with their selection of Laken Tomlinson, a versatile guard out of Duke.

When your entire offense is predicated on passing for volume to arguably the best wide receiver in the game in Calvin Johnson Jr., you have to protect the man throwing him the football. Laken Tomlinsonis just the man for the job.
