Oklahoma Sooners’ QB Trevor Knight almost got one really cool gift from a candy company until he realized that it would be a NCAA violation.

Have you ever just wanted something that you just can’t have? Well, Oklahoma Sooners‘ quarterback Trevor Knight knows exactly how you felt. As collegiate athletes in the NCAA, players aren’t allowed to accept any type of benefit — whether it be items or money.
The rules are so strict that players are always wondering what is and is not a violation. In fact, last year it was revealed that a player is allowed to receive a bagel from someone, but the spread that goes on said bagel would be a violation to provide.
All the rules are almost a headache to try and grasp, but these athletes and coaches do a stellar job, for the most part, in keeping the sanctity of college athletics.
During this past week, presumably finals week for most college students, Knight took to Twitter to voice his desire for candy and cookies.
Seems like a harmless tweet, right? Well, the Sour Punch Candy Twitter page decided to hook up their fan who happened to be a college football star.
"@trevor_knight9 Send us a DM my friend and we’ll hook ya up!— Sour Punch Candy (@SourPunchCandy) April 30, 2015"
They have deleted the tweet since, only because a fan pointed out to them that supplying Knight candy would be considered an NCAA violation.
If you’re a company like Sour Punch, you have to be pretty excited to see a famous up-and-coming athlete tweet out your brand and give you some exposure. However, Sour Punch was almost too excited and nearly caused Knight to be in some hot water with the NCAA.
Could you imagine if the quarterback was suspended for part of his junior season because he accepted a gift of candy? That would likely be the most embarrassing suspension in the history of college athletics.
That would almost be as embarrassing as stealing crab legs from a local grocery store. OK, that might be the most embarrassing thing to happen to a college athlete.
Either way, Knight had to miss out on a pretty generous gift from a nice company.
Tough luck being a college sports star.
