Cristiano Ronaldo defends kid trying to speak Portuguese (Video)

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo defends a Japanese kid trying to speak to him in Portuguese as the crowd laughs.
Reddit is a magical land and can take little seen clips from the darkest corners of the internet and make them go viral. For instance this clip that surfaced of Cristiano Ronaldo at a Japanese Q&A last year.
In the clip a young fan has a piece of paper with Portuguese written on it and is attempting to read a message to Ronaldo in his native tongue. He seems to be struggling through it, and anyone who remembers studying a foreign language in middle school will remember how difficult speaking in a new language can be.
Especially if you don’t even have any formal instruction and are basically trying to teach yourself to convey a singular message to say, the biggest soccer star on the planet who happens to be your favorite player.
But as the crowd began to sneer and chuckle as the kid fumbled through the message, Ronaldo spoke up to defend him like the true hero that he is.
“Why they smile? Why? He speaks good Portuguese! Very good,” Ronaldo snaps in English. “They should be happy because he tries very hard!”
A translator conveys the message to the Japanese crowd and they applaud Ronaldo’s comments.
It is nice to see Ronaldo step up for the young man who already has to be trembling with nerves because he is speaking to his favorite player, let alone standing up in front of a crowd and cameras to read a message in a language that isn’t your native tongue.
