There are five afternoon games on tap for Saturday, which helps split up the tournaments a little. It could be another rainy day in the Midwest, with rain in the forecast for Cleveland and Detroit. Many of us were burned by the White Sox-Reds being rained out in Chicago last night since the called off the game so late. If you won’t be able to check your lineups again right before first pitch, it may better serve you to avoid those two games.

Here are my early FanDuel Lineups For May 9:

Pitcher:

Best Bet:

Anibal Sanchez, Tigers ($8,400): Sanchez has struggled some this year, but the current Royals are only hitting .190 off of him with zero home runs in 168 at bats. As long as this game isn’t rained out, Sanchez is by far the best bet of the early games.

Honorable Mention:

Phil Hughes, Twins ($7,900): Hughes has fared well against the current Cleveland team. They are hitting only .238 off of him in 143 at bats, but they do have four homers. He is a solid option if the Tigers get rained out, but there is a threat of rain in Cleveland as well. That said, Hughes is most likely to get a win today going against Bruce Chen in his first start of the year.

Stay Away:

Chase Whitley, Yankees ($6,900): Whitley has given up only one run in 12 innings in his two starts, but he is facing the Orioles. They bombed him last year in one of his starts, and the offense isn’t much, if any, worse this year.

Catcher:

Best Bet:

Russell Martin, Blue Jays ($3,900): I really hope that Martin doesn’t get the day off today. He is 4-8 with three walks, a homer, a double, and five RBI off of Joe Kelly. He has hit Kelly hard all over the place. Hopefully the Jays decide that he can go one more day without a day off.

If You’re Cheap:

Roberto Perez, Indians ($2,300): Perez has already faced Phil Hughes seven times, and he has five hits. Two of those went for extra bases (a double and a solo homer). He is a great cheap option.

So is Kurt Suzuki ($2,200) on the other side of the field. He is 8-17 lifetime off of Bruce Chen with a homer, and double, and five RBI. Forget the Chen pitched well in the minors this year. The majors are a whole different animal.

First Base:

Best Bet:

Miguel Cabrera, Tigers ($5,000): Miggy has hammered Jeremy Guthrie. He is 19-53 off of him with six walks, a double, four homers and 14 RBI. If this game goes on as scheduled, Cabrera could have a huge day.

If You’re Cheap:

Mike Napoli, Red Sox ($2,300): Napoli is off to a dreadful start this year, but he has done well against Drew Hutchinson. In eight at bats, he has two walks, two doubles, and an RBI. Facing Hutchinson could help him turn the season around. At the very least, he should get you some positive numbers.

Second Base:

Best Bet:

Devon Travis, Blue Jays ($3,400): Travis faced Joe Kelly earlier this year, and he went two for three with a homer and two RBI. He is a solid bet for some good points today.

If You’re Cheap:

Jace Peterson, Braves ($2,400): Peterson has faced Doug Fister twice, and he singled off of him both times and drove in a run. It is not a great sample size, but at least you know he sees the ball well off of Fister.

Shortstop:

Best Bet:

Xander Bogaerts, Red Sox ($2,600): Bogaerts has feasted off of Drew Hutchinson so far. He is 5-10 with a double and an RBI. Sure, you would like to see more big hits, but if he gets on base half of the time, you really can’t complain.

If You’re Cheap:

Alcides Escobar, Royals ($2,400): Believe it or not, Escobar has never faced Anibal Sanchez. His speed and ability to get on base makes him worth a cheap flier today, especially with so few proven options at SS this afternoon.

Third Base:

Best Bet:

Trevor Plouffe, Twins ($2,900): Not only have the Twins been on fire lately, but Plouffe has roughed up Bruce Chen over his career. Plouffe is 9-26 with three walks, three doubles, a triple, three homers, and four RBI off of the veteran lefty. Look for continued success this afternoon.

If You’re Cheap:

Alberto Callaspo, Braves ($2,200): As long as he is in the Braves’ lineup, he should find his way into yours. He is 7-19 with two walks, a homer, and three RBI off of Doug Fister in his career. He could be a sneaky source of points today.

Next: How Does The Outfield Look?

Outfield:

Best Bets:

Bryce Harper, Nationals ($4,500): Harper has owned Julio Teheran so far. He is 8-19 with a walk, three doubles, two homers, and four RBI. You need to find some way to afford Harper if at all possible.

Jacoby Ellsbury, Yankees ($4,400): Forget the lefty-lefty rule here. Ellsbury has punished Wei-Yin Chen over his career so far. Ells is 7-16 with a double off of him, but when he is on base that much, he is doing what he does best: stealing bases and scoring runs.

Brett Gardner, Yankees ($3,800): Yes, another left handed Yankee has hit Chen hard as well. Gardner even more so. He is 5-15 with two walks, two doubles, a homer, and five RBI off of the Taiwanese left hander.

If You’re Cheap:

Denard Span, Nationals ($3,400): Span has owned Teheran as well. He is 12-30 with a walk, two doubles, two triples, a homer, and two RBI off of the Braves ace. That is a whole lot of crooked numbers!

Nick Markakis, Braves ($2,700): Markakis has handled Doug Fister very well, dating back to his days in the American League. He is 8-24 with two walks, two doubles, a homer, and eight RBI off of Fister.
