There are 28 pitchers to choose from in today’s FanDuel tournaments. That leaves us with plenty of options, some good and some bad. Let’s see who the stats say will succeed today!

Here are my FanDuel pitcher picks for May 20:

High Priced ($7,300 and up):

Best Bet:

Jordan Zimmerman, Nationals ($9,000): Zimmerman has faced current Yankee hitters 79 times and held them to a .203 average with only five extra base hits. He also has piled up 22 strikeouts. This game is in D.C., so the friendly dimensions of Yankee Stadium don’t apply. Zimmerman looks like a solid play tonight.

Honorable Mention:

Carlos Martinez, Cardinals ($8,100): Martinez has trouble going deep into games, which limits his upside. The reason he is here tonight is because he is facing a relatively weak Mets lineup that only mustered two hits in 14 at bats in their careers against the Cardinal righty. Add to the that the fact that Bartolo Colon has given up five runs in back to back outings, and Martinez is a strong candidate for a win. That is if he can stay in the game long enough.

Stay Away:

Tim Lincecum, Giants ($7,700): Lincecum is pitching well this year, but he has never fared well against the Dodgers, even when he was among the league’s elite. The current Dodger team is hitting .272 off of him in 276 career at bats with 30 walks and 28 runs scored. Even with the Dodgers a little beat up, I don’t trust this one.

Mid Range Options ($6,600-$7,200):

Best Bet:

Wei-Yin Chen, Orioles ($7,200): Chen has dominated Seattle in his career. The current Mariner team is hitting a measly .151 off of him with one homer and one RBI in 106 at bats. That’s right. One RBI! If it weren’t for Robinson Cano, the Mariners would have absolutely nothing. Oh, and Chen has racked up 29 strikeouts. He is likely the best option of the night, never mind the price range!

Honorable Mention:

Jeff Locke, Pirates ($6,600): Locke has never faced the Twins before, and despite the Twins hammering of Francisco Liriano, I am recommending Locke here. A lot of it has to do with his opponent, Mike Pelfrey. Pelfrey has not fared very well against the current Pirates players. They hit .281 off of hi in 57 at bats in his Mets days. The Twins have punished left handers, so be wary of that if you use Locke. He does have a solid chance at a win though.

Stay Away:

Kyle Lohse, Brewers ($6,900): Lohse did not fare well against the Tigers when he was in the American League. They are hitting .306 off of him in 62 at bats, but that isn’t the worst part. He gave up six homers, 15 runs, walked four, and struck out just eight batters. Stay far away from this one!

Cheap Options ($6,500 and under):

Best Bet:

Chase Anderson, Diamondbacks ($6,500): Anderson has not allowed more than one run in any of his last three starts. His career numbers against the Marlins (.351 batting average against in 37 at bats) are not great, but is is a small sample size. His win chances are not great with the way David Phelps has been pitching, but he should at least be able to keep the game close.

Honorable Mention:

None. There is very little at the bottom of the barrel today. Eddie Butler ($5,600) could be gambled on if you really want to take a chance because Severino Gonzalez has struggled in spot starts this year, but Butler has only completed five innings once in his last three starts himself.

Stay Away:

Jeremy Guthrie, Royals ($6,500): Guthrie made the stats (and me) looks like fools in his last outing. Can he buck the trend twice in a row? Guthrie is allowing current Reds hitters to hit .340 off of him in 50 at bats. Jason Marquis has not exactly pitched well lately, so Guthrie has a decent shot at a win, but I would be more on this being a high scoring game that you want no part of.
