Indianapolis Colts hang ‘AFC Finalists’ banner (Photo)

The Indianapolis Colts nearly made it to the Super Bowl last year, but they’re just making up banners to hand in Lucas Oil Stadium at this point.
When the Indianapolis Colts made it to the AFC title game last season, it looked like Andrew Luck might finally be able to pull off the improbable and progress at a rapid pace into becoming a Super Bowl quarterback. Russell Wilson won his first Super Bowl on his second try, and Luck had brought the Colts closer and closer to the Super Bowl in each of his first three years in the NFL.
It wasn’t meant to be though — DeflateGate or not — and the Colts dream season ended in Foxboro in January. But all is not lost from their 2014 season, as the Colts are looking back fondly on what was ultimately their best year of growth yet.
In honor of their season that ended in the AFC Championship game last season, the Indianapolis Colts put an ‘AFC Finalists’ banner in the rafters at Lucas Oil Stadium.
This is a little much, even if it’s as well meaning as it seems. The Colts are just making up banners the way youth baseball teams hand out trophies for games that don’t matter. At the end of the day, the Colts didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, they aren’t champions and still have a hump to get over.
Still, it has been insane progress on the part of Andrew Luck to get the Colts to where they are now. Most young quarterbacks take time to grow into their roles as the franchise guy, but Luck as taken the Colts to the AFC Wild Card, AFC Divisional Round and the AFC Championship Game in successive seasons.
You can know them for basically raising a participation banner in Indianapolis, but there’s a lot to love and be hopefully for if you’re a Colts fan.
