The Minnesota Timberwolves have the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft, but will Karl-Anthony Towns want to play for them?

To call Minneapolis a basketball boneyard is to violently understate the dire circumstances that have clouded the Timberwolves for the last decade. The team hasn’t made the postseason since 2003-04 and the franchise has been a dumpster fire of bad decisions and laughable failures ever since.

That could all change though, as over the course of a single season, the Wolves suddenly have hope that has eluded them for a very long time. Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins is a rising star, as is his sidekick and Slam Dunk champion Zach LaVine.

Adding Kentucky’s Karl-Anthony Towns to the core of the future could be something that gets the Wolves out of the cellar and back into the sunlight of the NBA. The only question is, thanks to the years of being an eye sore and being that the team plays in one of the coldest places on earth, will a star like Towns want to play for Minnesota?

According to Marc J. Spears, who spoke with Karl-Anthony Towns, the Kentucky big man wouldn’t just be happy to play for the Wolves, he’d be honored to do so.

This is a huge weight off the shoulders of Wolves fans who have heard one too many times that their team isn’t a place for superstar talents. Stars like LeBron James and Dwight Howard never batted an eye lash at Minnesota when considering where to sign and franchise cornerstones like Kevin Garnett and Kevin Love have both left town after demanding an exit.

After all the years of being unloved, the Wolves finally have a young core of players who are going to reinvigorate the franchise, and it might finally make the team a destination no one thought it would ever be.
