Denver Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson believes he’s going to be traded to the Sacramento Kings.

Ty Lawson has been the subject of trade rumors for the past few NBA seasons. As the Denver Nuggets have struggled to get back to the postseason over the past two years, Lawson’s future in Denver has become increasingly less certain. Given that, it’s no wonder that Lawson was being mentioned in connection to a DeMarcus Cousins trade with the Sacramento Kings leading up to Thursday night’s 2015 NBA Draft.

The draft has only served to fuel rumors that Lawson might be on his way out of Denver. With the seventh overall pick in the draft, the Nuggets selected point guard Emmanuel Mudiay. As part of a video Lawson recorded with some friends while watching the draft (and smoking a hookah), the speedy point guard had this to say:

Well it seems at least one person is definitely buying into the Lawson trade rumors: Lawson himself.

Obviously the Nuggets selecting Mudiay doesn’t solidify anything in terms of trades. There is always the chance that the Denver front office wants the two players to play together or even for Mudiay to learn under Lawson’s tutelage. That being said, the trade rumors surrounding Lawson leading up to the draft make the Mudiay selection a bit curious.

It seems unlikely as of now that Lawson will be going to Sacramento in a deal that involves Cousins, but that doesn’t mean that another deal isn’t an option. The Kings have shown under owner Vivek Ranadive that they aren’t shy about making big moves and there have been rumbling about the organization also shopping Rudy Gay.

We’ll see if Lawson’s prediction from draft night comes to fruition. What’s clear at this point, though, is that Lawson is feeling a little less than welcome in Denver after they picked Mudiay on Thursday night.
