There are 8 games today, which is a little more than half a full slate. That still gives us 16 pitchers to choose from. With no aces in action, who are the best options based on previous stats? Let’s take a look!

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science.
Here are my FanDuel pitcher picks for June 29:
High Priced ($7,100 and up):
Best Bet:
C.C. Sabathia, Yankees ($7,400): The expensive tier is full of bad matchups or of pitchers that have no history against their opponent. That leaves Sabathia as a slightly better option if you are looking for past history. The Angels are hitting just .203 off of him in 79 at bats with two homers and two RBI. The fact that they aren’t getting on base a lot helps C.C. limit the damage, and move to the head of the class today.
Honorable Mention:
C.J. Wilson, Angels ($7,900): Surprisingly enough, Wilson has done very well against the Yankees in his career. You are just trying to pick who will win the Angels-Yankees game if you want to spend on pitching today. Wilson has held the Yankees to a .200 average in 165 at bats with four homers and 14 RBI. His numbers are right up there with Sabathia’s.
Stay Away:
Clay Buchholz, Red Sox ($8,600): The highest price option of the day is likely the worst one. The Blue Jays have hit Buchholz hard during his career, owning a .285 average in 274 at bats with 7 homers and 41 RBI. R.A. Dickey‘s numbers against Boston are nearly as bad (.279 with 9 homers and 44 RBI in 283 at bats), so Buchholz may get a win. The caveat is that he will likely give up a lot of points doing it.
Next: Who Is The Best Middle Tier Option?

Middle Tier ($6,000 – $7,000):
Best Bet:
Mike Bolsinger, Dodgers ($6,500): Bolsinger pitched well in a win against Arizona on June 8th. The bad part? That was his last win. Bolsinger gave up two runs on just three hits and two walks while striking out eight. That resulted in 17 FanDuel points. If he can come anywhere near that tomorrow, he just might be the highest scoring pitcher of the day!
Honorable Mention:
Cody Anderson, Indians ($6,100): Anderson made his debut against the Rays on June 21st, and pitched very well. He pitched 7.2 innings of shutout ball while striking out four. He picked up 11.66 FanDuel points in the outing, and could be a pleasant surprise at a very cheap option tomorrow.
Stay Away:
Mike Pelfrey, Twins ($6,700): Pelfrey has not fared well against the current Reds. Most of the stats were accumulated from his time in the National League, but the stats stay the same. True, Joey Votto did most of the damage, but the rest of them hit well too. A .303 average in 66 at bats with four homers and nine RBI. Stay far away from this one.
Next: Are There Any Good Cheap Options?
Cheap Options ($6,000 and under):
Joe Blanton and Sean O’Sullivan are the only ones that have any histories against tomorrow’s opponents. Neither of them are good. Oakland is hitting .333 in 54 at bats against Blanton. The Brewers have hit a robust .417 off of O’Sullivan in one start. It’s a small sample size, but it’s a rather frightening sample. I wouldn’t go under $6,000 tonight under any circumstances.
Come back tomorrow morning for the hitter picks!
