Indians’ Carlos Carrasco loses no-hitter in 9th inning against Rays
By Mike Dyce
Carlos Carrasco lost a no-hitter for the Cleveland Indians in the 9th inning against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night.
Cleveland Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco almost did something no man has done for this organization since 1981, throw a no-hitter. Down to the last batter on Wednesday night, designated hitter Joey Butler broke up the no-hitter with a single to right field.
Carrasco started this game perfect, losing it in the 7th inning with a walk to who else, Joey Butler. Carrasco added another walk in the ninth inning and another batter got to base after being hit by a pitch, but the no-hitter at that point was still alive.
The Tampa Bay Rays have been facing an unprecedented run of pitching excellence, with Indians pitchers going perfect through five innings to start each game. That is a feat that last occurred in 1961.
Len Barker was the last Indians pitcher to throw a no-hitter on May 15, 1981, which was a perfect game.
Here is a list of the other no-hitters in Indians history.
