Miami Marlins’ starting pitcher Jose Fernandez shaved the head of a fan who refused to get a haircut while the young ace rehabbed from injury.
After suffering one of the most devastating elbow injuries in the game, Miami Marlins‘ ace Jose Fernandez was forced to undergo Tommy John surgery a little over a year ago and he is finally back in action on Thursday afternoon.

Fernandez, a third-year player from Cuba, has been one of the best young pitchers in the league and his first two seasons, although cut short by the injury, have been nothing short of fantastic. Baseball just hasn’t been the same without him on the mound for the Marlins.
Along with New York Mets‘ young starter Matt Harvey, the National League has two of the best young stars on the mound and will continue to have them as long as they can stay healthy — both have had Tommy John surgery in their first couple of years in the majors.
Thirteen months ago, Fernandez was set to undergo rehab after the major elbow surgery and one Marlins superfan, nicknamed ‘The Jose Guy,’ decided that he wouldn’t shave or cut his hair until Fernandez was back on the mound, according to For the Win.

Although it seems kind of wild for the fan to refuse cutting his hair until Jose’s return — which I’m sure a possible girlfriend wouldn’t like — it’s also a cool gesture to show to the team which he has long been a fan of.
This isn’t the first time The Jose Guy has been involved with an article here as he was once one of our own, writing for FanSided’s Miami Marlins site.
Marlins fans may be excited that the young pitcher is back, bringing his career-2.25 ERA with him, but baseball is getting stronger by returning one of its brightest young stars. This isn’t only good for a team that just lost Giancarlo Stanton for 4-6 weeks, but it’s great for the game.
Everyone needs to tune in to watch this kid pitch for the rest of the season as he will be one of the prominent Cy Young candidates for years to come.
As for The Jose Guy, he didn’t just do this for Jose, he did it for the organization to show support.
"“It was just to show my support to not only to Jose, but to the Marlins family as a whole. The Marlins have given me entertaining years for the past 22 years.”"
Pretty cool stuff here.
